Bawming is almost here

We’re on the final run-in to Bawming Day this Saturday.

Gardens all over the village have been judged for “Bawming the Village” – did you spot the judges out and about on their tandem?

Here is a video photo montage of some of the splendid entries.

cakes2Now, hopefully, all efforts are focussed on baking cakes, designing fancy dress and making floral arrangements.

As well as the cake and home produce competitions – in 5 classes: jams & preserves; cup cakes; chocolate cake; Victoria sponge; childrens’ cake competition (12 and under only) – the baking of cakes for raffle and sale is encouraged.

Please drop off all entries and other cakes and produce between 9:00am and 10:00am on Saturday, at the Village Hall field.

cakes1Please also remember that all entries need to be ‘booked in’ and that entries are not returnable at the end of the day.

The fancy dress competition entries are expected to be as creative as in previous years – based on this year’s theme of “Colour!”.

Voices have been heard advocating an ‘open age’ section for the fancy dress competition – but for now its just for the kids please!

Each year we see some beautiful flower arrangements around the base of the Appleton Thorn tree on Bawming Day. Entries, to be judged by our Guest of Honour, Thorn Cross Governor Pia Sinha, should be delivered to the tree between 10:00am and 11:00am on Saturday.

Call for Volunteers

If you can help out as a marshal between 11:30am and around 1:00pm on Saturday then PLEASE contact Nora Carlin – email bawming@appletonthorn.org.uk. Marshals should meet at 11:30 at the front door of the Village Hall. We have more marshalling positions to cover than in previous years so your help is very welcome.

Similarly, at the end of the day, we can always do with more people helping get everything taken down, cleared away and tidied up. Your contribution is really welcome.

Look out for details of road closures on this site and via our Twitter account (@appletonthorn) running up to Saturday.

The weather is hopefully going to be fine, so let’s make this a Bawming Day to remember!!
