Can you help out at Bawming?

Bawming Day would not happen if it wasn’t for the Bawming Committee working throughout the year, but that is only part of it.

For the day to be a success, a host of additional volunteers are needed before and on Bawming Day.  Can you help this year?

Friday evening

As many hands as possible are needed to help layout the Bawming fete field, setting up gazebos and marquees; generally carrying, lifting and ‘doing stuff’.

Everyone welcome but please understand that it is a busy scene and not suitable for unsupervised children or those with bad backs!

Please gather on the Village Hall field at 6:00pm – most of the work will be complete by 8:00pm, but sometimes . . . .

On the day

Marshals are needed to help prepare and protect the procession route around the village, to ensure everyone is safe during the Bawming ceremony around the tree and when moving from the Appleton Thorn tree to the Village Hall field. You don’t need to be built like a bouncer – it is more important that you can talk confidently, pleasantly and helpfully with people.

Please contact Nora Carlin at bawming@appletonthorn.org.uk or use the contact form on this site to volunteer as a marshal. Stetsons and boots will (not) be provided, but Hi-viz vests can be.

Marshals need to be available from 11:30am at the latest and will normally be ‘released’ by 1:30pm at the latest.

After the event

When everyone is tired and stuffed full of barms, cakes, pop and beer this is the time when the real heroes come to the fore!

The field needs clearing, with stalls taken down and packed away, contents removed and litter picked up. With enough help it doesn’t take too long leaving plenty of time to get yourself ready for the Village Hall BBQ.

Everyone is very welcome to lend a hand!
